VENUE & TIME: Telstra Dome, Saturday 19 July, 7.10pm AEST. HEAD TO HEAD: Played 143, St Kilda 69, Hawthorn 73, Draws 1 LAST TIME: St Kilda 14.11 (95) def Hawthorn 11.12 (78), Round 16, 2007 at Telstra Dome
Round 16 sees the Hawks take on St Kilda for the first time this season. The teams met twice last year, once in the infamous "keepy off" match which Hawthorn won narrowly, and the second was this time last year, round 16, when St Kilda won by 17 points. St Kilda are teetering on the edge of the top 8, sitting at 9, after 15 rounds (8-7). They were looking shakey three rounds ago but they have successfully strung together three wins in a row against Fremantle, North Melbourne and Carlton to be out of the top 8 by percentage. Conversely, the Hawks have only lost two matches all year although they seem to have been doing just the bare minimum in securing their six wins from the last two months.
The extended break seems to have done Hawthorn some good. The Hawks appeared a much better side during their hoodoo breaking win over Sydney then they have over the last few rounds. After starting the season so well, it would appear that the Hawks were becoming complacent and simply doing just enough to win, tired bodies perhaps? Let's hope that's behind the team now. One of the concerns to emerge from the match against Sydney was Buddy's inaccurate kicking. Sure, it's great for him to win the ball 11 time, but when you only convert 4 of your opportunities into goals you give the opposition a window which ordinary would have been shut much earlier. Let's hope he can make the most of his time in front of goals tonight and put himself further in front for Colman medal contention. The Hawks by 27. |

VENUE & TIME: MCG, Saturday 21 June, 2.10pm (AEST) HEAD TO HEAD: Played 160, Hawthorn 86, North Melbourne 72, Draws 2 LAST TIME: Hawthorn 15.12 (102) def North Melbourne 13.8 (86), Round 3, 2008 at Telstra Dome
The Hawks come into this match on a high after defeating Adelaide at AAMI stadium for the first time in 14 years. In contrast, the Kanagroo were only the second side to be (significantly) beaten by Fremantle this season. The Hawks go into this game without mid fielders Chance Bateman, who injured his hamstring against the Crows, and Shane Crawford, who still cannot shake a niggleing kee injury. Ruckman Simon Taylor is still out due to a gash on his knee and Trent Croad, who was a late withdrawal againt Adelaide will aslo miss due to a bruised hip. The Kangaroos will be without ruckman Hamish McIntosh who was injured ina dual with Aaron Sandilands last weekend. The Hawks are in for a tough battle. Alistair Clarkson hails the "rival revivial" between the two clubs in an atricle in the West Australian today, so you can be sure of a fiery encounter.Emotions aside, which will likely limit both teams performance in the early stages of the game, Hawthorn have the right mixture of talent, level headedness and determination to take this one over the line. Forget the Kangaroos thumping at the hands of Freo, this on will be closer. Hawthorn by 24 points. |

VENUE & TIME: AAMI Stadium, Saturday 14 June, 7:40pm (AEST). HEAD TO HEAD: Played: 26, Adelaide 15, Hawthorn 11. LAST TIME: Hawthorn 17.12 (114) def. Adelaide 10.10 (70), Round 4, 2008 at Aurora Stadium.
The Hawks head to a sold out AAMI stadium to take on the Crows for the second time this season; but this time it's Adelaide who are the favourites with sports betting agencies. The Hawks will be bolstered by the return of big man Stuart Dew however they will surely miss Brad Sewell (shoulder), Shane Crawford (knee), Ruckman Simon Taylor (knee) and Guerra who is still out with his hamstring injury. The Hawks will blood debutant Brent Renouf in the clash against the Crows. Standing 200cm, Renouf is a ruck prospect who can also play down back. This will be a tough match for Hawthorn. Adelaide will have the home ground advantage and will be out to silence critics that have suggested they are unable to match it with the top three sides in the league. Adelaide has beaten just one top-eight side this season and will have extra motivation to put in a cracking performance against the top team. To top it off, Hawthorn also has a dismal 5-15 record at AAMI stadium. Buddy Franklin has kicked 13 goals in his last two games against Adelaide and could again prove the difference between the two sides on Saturday night. The Hawks should have the run in the midfield to take the 4 premiership points. Hawthorn by 11 points. Read More to view the Full Team |

VENUE & TIME: Aurora Stadium, Saturday 31 May, 2:10pm AEST. HEAD TO HEAD: Played 146: Hawthorn 72, Western Bulldogs 72, Drawn 2. LAST TIME: Hawthorn 22.19 (151) def. Western Bulldogs 10.7 (67), Round 21, 2007 at Telstra Dome. The Hawks have a huge injury list heading into this round 10 clash against the Western Bulldogs. Currently there are 10 players sitting out due to injury and McGlynn adds to that list by missing the next three matches with suspension. The Western Bulldogs are fortunate enough to have one of the smallest injury list of the competition and will only really miss the presence of Scott West on Saturday. Bailey, knee | Boyle, corked hip | Crawford, knee swelling | Dew, hamstring tightness | Guerra, hamstring | Hodge, hamstring |Lewis, corkie | Muston, knee | Stokes, hamstring | Tuck, jarred knee | McGlynn, suspended. Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs are very evenly matched heading into this round, with the Western Bulldogs having scored 54 more points this season over Hawthorn, but have conceded 112 more points. I can see a shootout this round, with both forward lines ready to kick big scores after quiet performances in round 9. This match will be won in the midfield; and the question is whether Hawthorn have the run to deliver the ball into attack with the quality of players sidelined. I think they do, provided Buddy kicks straighter than 2.11. The Hawks to win at home. 15 points. |

clearly not our greatest performance, however, we we're beaten by a quality side this year in the bulldogs~
sometimes a loss can put things into perspective that w'heve got some improvements to be made in our run to september action this season...

VENUE & TIME: MCG, Sunday 25 May, 2:10pm AEST. HEAD TO HEAD: Played: 148. Melbourne 74, Hawthorn 74. LAST TIME: Hawthorn 23.16 (154) def. Melbourne 6.14 (50), Round 1, 2008 at the MCG. SPECIAL EVENT: Indigenous Round Round 9 see the Hawks take on the Demons for the second time this season. The last time the two teams met was round 1; a match which Hawthorn won 154 to 50. The Hawks are up for a closer match this time round due to some key outs: Luke Hodge (hamstring), Brent Guerra (hamstring), Shane Crawford (suspended) and Ben McGlynn (suspended) are all set to miss the round 9 clash. Melbourne are without: Ricky Petterd (groin), Jared Rivers (hip), Nathan Carroll (hamstring), Paul Wheatley (calf) and of course David Neitz who retired this week due to grave health concerns. The Hawks come into this match coming off a dramatic 15 point win and a 38 point turnaround against the Power in round 8, whilst Melbourne couldn't keep that winning feeling continuing after being beaten comprehensively by Adelaide at AAMI stadium. As much as it will hurt Hawthorn to have 4 key play makers missing, you can't see the Demons getting in the way of Hawthorn's 9th straight win. Alistair Clarkson speaks frequently about respecting your opposition and if the Hawks go into this match with the right attitude they should register a comprehensive victory. The Hawks by 10 goals. The last thing for Hawthorn to announce is whether Sam Mitchell will be replaced for the weekend as captain by Chance Bateman; as it is the AFL's Indigenous Round. Chance Bateman was a one week captain of the side last year in the same round. The Hawthorn Team can be seen below: B: Brown, Gilham, Ladson HB: Ellis, Croad, Birchall C: Young, Mitchell, Bateman HF: Osborne, Franklin, Kennedy F: Rioli, Roughead, Williams FOLL: Campbell, Sewell, Lewis I/C from: Dew, Taylor, Clarke, Morton, Murphy, Renouf, Thorp IN: Clarke, Kennedy, Morton, Murphy, Renouf, Thorp OUT: McGlynn (suspended), Crawford (suspended), Guerra (hamstring) |

Saturday afternoon sees the Hawks take on Port Adelaide at Aurora Stadium. Head to Head: Hawthorn 5 Port Adelaide 12 Last time they met: Port Adelaide 12.15 (87) defeated hawthorn 12.10 (85) Round 20, 2007 Chance Bateman may recover from a hand injury in time to boost the midfield which is without superstar Luke Hodge after he tore his hamstring just after half time in the clash against the Magpies in Round 7 two weeks ago. Tim Boyle rounds out the Hawthorn injury list with a corked hip. Port are without Chad Cornes who is still recovering from a broken finger; but welcome back Warren Tredrea and Michael Wilson. Both teams go into this weeks clash coming off comfortable wins in Round 7. Port Adelaide defeated Essendon by 64 points at AAMI stadium;, whilst Hawthorn were 65 point winners over Collingwood at the MCG. The last time the two teams met in Tasmania Hawthorn squandered a convincing lead to be beaten with seconds remaining on the siren. Hawthorn will be determined not to let that happen again in an attempt to make it 8 straight wins in a row. THis will be Stuart Dew's first clash against his old side and is expected to receive a little extra attention from the Power, both mentally and physically. Although I suspect he will have the last laugh when the hawks take the 4 points away from the match. The hawks by 28 points. |

The red hot Hawks (let's forget about last weeks inaccuracy) take on Collingwood at the MCG this Saturday in what is set to be the match of the round. The last time the two teams met, the Hawks beat Collingwood 15.5 (95) to 12.15 (87). It was Hawthorn's first win against the Pies for some time, breaking a 4 match losing streak in the process. The Hawks are still without Tim Boyle (corked Hip), Garry Moss (shoulder) and Thomas Murphy (finger) but big man Stuart Dew has apparently recovered from his hamstring injury, but it's unknown whether he will be picked to play at this stage. The Hawks go into this round still undefeated after beating Richmond on Sunday, whilst Collingwood had a decent win over n injury riddled Essendon in their ANZAC day clash. With both forward lines being capable of big scores you would think this match will come down to who has the most effective midfield on the day. With Crawford, Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis and Sewell all firing it will be an uphill battle for the Pies who have been frequently inconsistent in front of goal this season. It certainly won't be a walk in the park, but I think the Hawks have the depth to see off the Magpies this week with a 4 goal win. The Hawks by 28. |
